What's the best little freebie for downloading videos? Is it VDownloader, Youtube Downloader or something else?

Thanks

It rather depends on what video format and from where.

I assume you want a Youtube video downloader...

If you use Firefox try Download Helper..

I use keepvid for normal youtube videos (or most other flash videos), or Youtubedownloader HD for HD ones :thumbs:.

Paste this into the address bar while the video is playing and you'll get the highest quality in a nice .mp4 file :)

javascript:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href='http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt='+(isHDAvailable?'22':'18')+'&video_id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t']}

Free-FLV-Converter (http://download.cnet.com/Free-FLV-Converter/3000-2194_4-10832044.html)

This freebie seems to work well and very easy to use

Lightweight and effective, this program is a great way to convert video files from Flash formats into something useful beyond Web pages. Specializing in formats meant for portable devices, Free FLV Converter also supports AVI and can download embedded SWF or FLV vids directly from the Internet when you punch in the URL.

The app can also perform local searches for vids as well as convert to FLV. Hitting either conversion tab will automatically open a file browser so you can choose your victim. From there, a conversion window opens up, and you can change the basics such as settings, including output format, quality, and destination directory, as well as more advanced options like the codec, aspect ratio, and the frame rate. Tap convert at the bottom of the window when you're ready, and the Free FLV Converter works smoothly and without interfering with other programs.

Free FLV Converter does have one annoyance: When you install it, be sure to opt out of the Dealio toolbar. It's no more than a minor drawback, though, and doesn't cause problems later on. Seeing as how the app ran smoothly in the background, it's definitely a must-use piece of freeware.

Or just save as a bookmark and click that instead;)

I use a number of sites which you drop the youtube URL into and it gives you the .flv download url.
http://kej.tw/flvretriever/
http://youtubevideosdownload.com/download/
http://www.savetube.com/
http://www.clipnabber.com/

Some youtube videos only work on some sites so you have to play around a bit just to see what works for what video.
