Edited: just noticed - you say HP = Home Premium --- Home premium DOESN'T support XP mode ( I know I tried it) :0

Windows XP Mode will only run on Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate editions

Yep - its because it looks like you have not installed the first part - have a look at the two files - one the KB and the other Actual XP Mode, Download from here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx) -- The first part is the KB you are having errors with ( look at the KB number) - that HAS to be installed first (make sure you get the right One, 86 or 64)- then I reboot, THEN install the actual XP mode.

In the first post you say "Virtual PC mode " Second post "XP Mode package" -- I took it as XP mode (from the title) -- Which one Please??

Refer to my edited post if XP mode.:D

When I tried it on HP - it installed - and I thought :banana

BUT when I tried to open it :groan: Came up with a message " Not Supported on this Operating system" (words to that effect)

Could you trick it into thinking it's running Professional instead of Home Premium?

The above error message basically means you downloaded the XP-Mode package, without the Virtual PC package I believe?

You install Windows Virtual PC first and then XP Mode, not the other way around

XP Mode is a free download for Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise version users. If you don't have one of those version you can simply install your own version of Windows XP, I would recommend you use XPSP3

However, you can create a XP virtual machine from your own licensed XP media. Once you've done that, if you install the RAIL (Remote Applications Integrated Locally) QFE for XP, you will get XP Mode like functionality from your XP VM.
