Sometime soon I might look at upgrading my computer. Out of curiosity what would my current setup be worth?

Desktop in my sig, id keep monitor and watercooling

Jeez mate, not much really, 2006 CPU (overclocked! $75), 4Gb is std fair DDR800 ($100), old 88GT ($75-100), case and HDD ($100).. No real value in 2nd hand goods with computer parts really, with exception of maybe Graphic cards...
Is that M/B P35?, why do you want to upgrade?, if it were me, I'd buy a new Intel SSD, the new model with TRIM and maybe update the graphics.....if you are really keen, get a C2Q....

Ignore Solmeister, there are plenty of people buying second hand with lower specs than that still. (Desktop I mean, not that server)
The general rule is 70% of the cheapest Pricepsy price for components.
Maybe slightly less because of age......

And sometimes it's surprising what idiots on Trademe will pay for this sort of thing.

If it was me, I'd keep the usable stuff - monitors, PSU (unless you're going to a real high-end graphics card), HDDs, Optical drives, even case if you're still happy with it.

I only ever just keep swapping bits out of my PC, it never gets replaced - it just evolves.

Probably the only thing I'd upgrade is the vid card to a 4870....they're much cheaper these days.

Gee thanks PCT?!...You really think he would get more than around $400 for that?...why dont we see a show of hands eh?...

Who here, would pay more than $400 for an exstremely overclocked 2006 CPU with 4Gb of RAM and a video card from 2007?.....get real!

If PCT wasn't a woman, you could fit her into the 'Grumpy Old Men' category...

Someone here should be able to answer this.

If I got a 64gig SSD and installed windows on that how much better would gaming be if i had games installed to say a wd 640gig with 32mb cache? Worth it?

Depends what game it is. With most games you won't see that much of a performance increase really.

Q6600 sells for around $200
8800 GT around $80ish
Ram $80 if good brand

It doesnt matter if the card is from 2007, my old 7900 GTO could run most games today (tf2) at 60ish fps max settings, 1440x900 res. Also, the 8800 GT/X was the fastest single card back in 07, beats the ~9600 etc

TF2 is not an intensive game though, its designed for everyone to play.

Is my cpu really extremely overclocked? Im sure it could be overclocked further. And Ram isnt a great brand, supertalent, cheap as chips at the time. Have had it post at 1300ish mhz though which is pretty good for ram that cost me $120 for 2 gig like 2 years ago
