View Full Version : Wireless router with data usage monitoring

Hi there,

A while ago I remember seeing an article possibly on the News about a kiwi student who had designed a wireless router device (or possibly just firmware for it) that could monitor data traffic. It was so he could see how much data his flatmates were using and they could split the bill according to how much data they had each used. I can't remember who it was or where exactly I saw it but am keen to find out. Does anyone remember this news article, or know if this device has been produced and is being sold?

It was on Scoop.co.nz earlier this year.

Are there other routers which do this? I think the Belkin N1 Vision appears to do this, by displaying it on its lcd screen. But it only tracks usage in a 24hr period.

You'd think a feature like this would have become standard (as well as showing how much data has been pulled by each lan IP).

You could setup Tomato with SMNP, and track bandwidth using that.

I think the N1 only shows the speed and megabits per hour, rather than usage
