Hi all,

I've just installed Avidemux as a video-editing app, and would like the equivalent open source/freeware alternative to Photoshop Elements; is GIMP still good, or are there better tools now?

I realize it probably won't have all the functionality that PE does, but something close would be great!!

If it doesn't have to be open source try Picasa or Paint.NET.

There is a learning curve with The Gimp but it is good once you get used to it.

As noted above, I use a mix of paint.net, The Gimp, and photo filtre.

I like to use a program called PhotoFiltre.

Artweaver is ok for light photo editing - I use it from time to time. Paint.NET is better.

GIMP is good, but it has an unusual UI (for people accustomed to Windows programs), which means it takes some getting used to.

Have never used the Gimp (use Photoshop Elements) so can't comment much.
However, for what it's worth, Consumer Mag rates the Gimp only slightly less than PE.
They didn't test paint.net so the comments above from other members will be a good guide. Consumer Mag are behind the times on this one !
