Hi All.

I am using IE6.
One of the genealogy sites I am using has started asking me to upgrade my browser to access the site. Do i now go to IE7 or is there an 8 version. Will I have problems if I do? Do I need to un-install IE7 first. Thanks. PJ

Just run Windows Update. It'll update you to IE8

Version 8 is the latest, just manually run Windows Updates and and it will download the correct components and install - follow on screen instructions.

Either in the add/remove programs with the 'Show Updates' option ticked, or in IE make sure that the menu bar is enabled, and click Help -> About.

Did you install IE8 and close IE6 when / if you installed IE8? Reboot

I had a PC today where IE8 wasn't in the recommend updates for some reason, wonder if thats whats happened here.

Download and install from here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/worldwide-sites.aspx), then reboot, and run windows update again, install all the recommended updates.

What version of windows are you running? Only XP and above support IE7 and IE8

I don't think you have to install IE7 first on XP but maybe you do...

Nope you can install IE8 on top. Or if you do a clean install, you can slipstream IE8 with it. Saves you installing IE 6, or 7, and their updates
