Mmmmmm............. Cliff and the Shads............love to see them together again, but probably wouldn't be the same magic as when they were great in the 60s.

In the UK they play Cliff Richard songs in the evenings at the malls to keep the teenagers away. Beats Abu Ghraib hands down !! :D

Am sure there are worse things than Cliff Richard's singing.... such as .... (let me think about this !! )

Yes I'm more of a Shadows fan than a Cliff Richards one. Have quite a few Shadows CDs, videos/DVDs.

Pleased to see there are so many nah sayers here.

This means I possibly will not have to queue up to get my tickets I hope.

Mind you, I do know that it should be Cliff Richard rather than Cliff Richards! Much like John Keys should be John Key for example.

As far as I am aware there will be three venues. Auckland, New Plymouth and Chistchurch. Even if I have to travel to Christchurch to see them I will do so. My preferred venue may well be New Plymouth as the place is great.

Last time I saw Cliff Richard in person was in Sydney with The Police as backing.

Probably I should have listened to the lyrics of this song earlier:-

That's: SIR Cliff Richard!

Even in the US - I know that!

However - from a UK Newspaper:

Sir Cliff recently released his new autobiography My Life, My Way. In it the lifelong bachelor revealed he twice considered marrying, first to the singer Jackie Irving and secondly to Sue Barker.

Sir Cliff, a fervent Christian, spoke for the first time of his close friendship with a former Roman Catholic priest, Father John McElynn, an American former missionary he shares a home with.

He described Father McElynn as his 'companion' and 'blessing'.

The star has repeatedly dismissed rumours questioning his sexuality. He recently admitted that he enjoyed the fact that he kept people guessing about it.

He said: 'My private life is private. And I think it is great that after 50 years I am still an enigma.'

Who are the members of the Shadows now ?
It used to be Hank Marvin and I've forgotten the names of the others.

Interesting post Joe.

When the guy toured in South Africa he roomed with a known homosexual singer in one of Durban's best hotels. Kinda says it.

Yes Peter Williams said that Bruce Welch is coming. Then there was Jet Harris but I think he left and the drummer was Tony someone.
I remember when I was at school and we heard that the Shadows were putting out a new single we all went crazy.
Apache, FBI, Flingel Blunt.

My youngest daughter made 400 rhubarb crumbles for Cliff Richard's ?50th birthday party!

As far as I am concerned, leave the old fella behind, and bring the Shadows, provided Hank Marvin is still with them...

"Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavor On The Bedpost Over Night?" was the one I remember the best.

His other skiffle stuff didn't get played until the Beatles hit here in 1961 or so.

Later on we got songs about doing odd, mean things to kangaroos and wallabies and didgeridoos.

Oh-me, oh-my, oh-you
Whatever shall I do
Hallelujah, the question is peculiar
I'd give a lot of dough
If only I could know
The answer to my question
Is it yes or is it no

Does your chewing gum lose its flavour
On the bedpost overnight
If your mother says don't chew it
Do you swallow it in spite
Can you catch it on your tonsils
Can you heave it left and right
Does your chewing gum lose its flavour
On the bedpost overnight

Here comes a blushing bride
The groom is by her side
Up to the altar
Just as steady as Gibraltar
Why, the groom has got the ring
And it's such a pretty thing
But as he slips it on her finger
The choir begins to sing

Does your chewing gum lose its flavour
On the bedpost overnight
If your mother says don't chew it
Do you swallow it in spite
Can you catch it on your tonsils
Can you heave it left and right
Does your chewing gum lose its flavour
On the bedpost overnight

Now the nation rise is one
To send their only son
Up to the White House
Yes, the nation's only White House
To voice their discontent
Unto the Pres-I-dent
They pawn the burning question
What has swept this continent

(Lonnie speaks)
If tin whistles are made of tin
What do they make fog horns out of
Boom, boom

Does your chewing gum lose its flavour
On the bedpost overnight
If your mother says don't chew it
Do you swallow it in spite
Can you catch it on your tonsils
Can you heave it left and right
Does your chewing gum lose its flavour
On the bedpost overnight

On the bedpost overnight

(Man)
Hello there, I love you and the one who holds you tight

(Lonnie)
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Thursday, Friday, Sat'day night

On the bedpost overnight

(Man)
A dollar is a dollar and a dime is a dime

(Lonnie)
He's singin' out the chorus
But he hasn't got the time

On the bedpost overnight, yeah

Very sorry to hear that Joe, my father died in 2002 at 82 years old, I miss him a lot. To me it seems as if he walked out the door one day and never came back, all his things and the stuff he did around the garden all still here. I look after my mother now, she is 88.

Dad was one of the last to leave Dunkirk, he went back on a special mission to France 6 days later, he also fought in the desert campaign and at Monte Casino, he was in the Reconnaissance Corp.
