Hi

I have an Acer Laptop (five years old) and the Monitor is now not working properly. It is very dark and hard to read anything - any ideas?

Simple solution - check the contrast settings, if it has any. Otherwise the backlight may have blown.

A blown backlight sounds like a major cost to repair - I am not capable of doing it myself - what do you think - laptop is now just junk (it is nearly 5 years old)

Strip it for parts. Or Look on trademe for a possible cheap replacement.

Got a customers NEC laptop here - same thing with the screen - Plug in a standard monitor, and it should work. ( this is so you can see to transfer data off to a removable drive) You may have to press a few buttons to get it to change over, some auto change, some dont.

My own Acer that is about the same age 5 years old wont auto change.
