What is the budget?
What is the scope of the Auto CAD? ie how much work is getting done on it.

Not sure what his budget is not sure he knows himself he was talking $800 but then he's talking $500 for the graphic card alone he paid $230 for the hard drive so i am guessing around $1500 all up.He will use his old OS which is XP pro.
Not sure how much Auto CAD just stuff at home current spec PC gets locked up on Auto CAD
Thanks Wayne

Is he wanting a new monitor as well, or just the "box"?

If he's prepared to wait a bit longer for the release of i3 and i5 in Sept this year then he'll be able to get C2D/C2Qs alot cheaper or get the faster i3/i5s.

Cad = loads of RAM and a decent CPU.

Are we on 64bit territory here then?

These days I wouldn't even bother not starting with 2-4GB ram and a 2.33(oc'd to minimum 2.6ghz) Then again I'm a performance gamer.

I don't know much about cad programs, but if they don't benefit from opengl/direct3d, don't an expensive graphics card. It will be useless except for games.

If you're a gamer the most important thing you should be looking at is the graphics card!
