View Full Version : Choosing operating system default

On our PC are two operating systems (on separate partitions). One is Vista, which we still have to get experienced in. The other is standard XP.

When we start up the PC we have to stand by because we get the message which operating system do we want. Vista is the default so if we are not there then and change fairly quickly to XP then we have to shut down and restart.

I want to make XP the default. I thought that the way to do this would be to hit F8 on startup. This does give me the Boot Manager, however can see no way to make the change I want to make.

How do I do this please ?

In Vista. go run>msconfig

Click the boot tab then select XP and then click "Set as Default"

From there you can also configure timeout options etc

Hi Blam
I have done that ...however the boot tab shows only Vista, no other option and apparently no way of adding !

How about from XP?

If that still fails to work, install EasyBCD:)

Hey misty on vista go to start menu then right click on Computer and go properties, then click change settings, and when the properties box comes up click on the tab Advanced. Then go down to Startup and Recovery and click settings and then there is a drop down box with your OS in it. Hope fully should work.
