I have been trying to load Adobe's Flash Player from the web site. Everytime I do it asks for permission to run Active X. When I click to allow IE 8 freezes and I have to go to Task Manager to close. I am using Windows XP for home and am the administrator.

Select XP (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/) then continue, then IE, download flash, close IE, then install

It could be an addon / toolbar thats hanging IE. It maybe corrupt or something. WHAT addons , or toolbars have you installed?

I have removed any malware and the only addons I have intalled are Google Tool Bar and Google Chrome. I have tried again but as soon as I move my curser over the Add Active X control bar IE8 freezes. Of interest is that when I look at this to close in Task Manager I note that IE8 shows 2 times and regardless which version I click to close it closes the browser.

So did you download it, then run it instead?? We are talking about the 32 bit version of IE right?? Because flash doesnt work with the 64 bit version

Sorry but haven't got near to downloading but since looking again it is asking for an Active X to download Adobe Download Manager and when I attempt to click to install it freezes the IE8 browser. I have attempted to download on my other machine which has Vista installed and IE7 it worked fine.

Click on this then the direct link (http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe) close IE then install it

Cool, if you had malware what was it? And what program did you use to remove it?
