I am in the process of setting up my spare computer to use as a backup location.
I have acronis true image which will do the scheduled backups nicely from my understanding of reading the help files I should do a full backup then I can do incremental backups to the same folder, only thing is it always creates a new file for the incremental backup hence over time my HDD will get full quickly.

What i want to know is there a free alternative that will backup my whole drive but always overwrite the previous backup? thus saving me space as I want to backup 3 computers to the drive I have spare.

:thanks in advance

will it always overwrite the older version? I thought true image would but i can't find anything in the help file that says it will. Think I will just try it out and see

In Acronis create 2 tasks. One a full backup to run weekly and the other to run daily set as incremental.

Every week you have a full backup and the rest are incremental. Issue is if the fullbackup fails and you need it then you loose the lot.

You can always double up the tasks.

Why not just have one Full Backup per week and the rest differential, that way you only have 2 files. The full backup file and one differential that can get replaced.

that's what I'm wanting so will the weekly full overwrite the old full backup?

:thanks I have answered my own question just wanted some assurance before I went ahead all good now
