i have been trying to find out how to lock the keyboard and the advice is to press windows logo + L but when i do this it doesn't lock but rather goes to switch user! what am i doing wrong?

I'm not aware of any key combination in windows to lock the keyboard, and pressing the Windows Key + L is supposed to throw you back to the logon screen.

In Vista and Windows 7 it does 'lock' your user account.

This from microsoft support page as you can see they say windows logo + L to lock keyboard

Windows logo key Display or hide the Start menu
Windows logo key+L Lock the computer
Windows logo key+BREAK Display the System Properties dialog box
Windows logo key+D Show the desktop
Windows logo key+M Minimize all windows
Windows logo key+SHIFT+M Restore minimized windows

CTRL+Windows logo key+F Search for computers
Windows logo key+F1 Display Windows Help
Windows logo key+R Open the Run dialog box
Windows logo key+U Open Utility Manager

Application key Display the Shortcut menu for the selected item

It says lock the computer, not lock the keyboard.

ka pai so is there no short cut to just lock the keyboard / mouse?

Nope, none that I've ever heard of.

Get a USB keyboard and mouse and unplug them? :p
