Good find! That sounds like our old Gentle Annie. Bit of a misleading name.

I have its twin, I'm sure. The twin is a bit contrary though, some times it does what it's supposed to quite happily. Other times, it sulks and the complete cycle takes a couple of hours :(

I have a machine exactly like that. It's older than me! yet it's still chugging away. Had to replace the pump, central electronics, but other than that, they're great! Oh, and the cold valve no longer works, but putting cold through the hot valve works just fine.

Don't make em like they used to

lol thats exactly what this one is doing right now (some version of the gentle annie, its a PITA). Altho you can buy a replacement for about $40.

Sometimes it beeps, sometimes it doesnt, it cant make its mind up (this is because the cold water valve is stuffed). So, I've been told by an overseas forum who deals with dishwasher / fridges etc

Did anyone else see the clothes dryer on Fair Go last night? It caught fire because of lint. Not quite a wormhole... but still.

I'll be interesting to see if the winning bidder will actually fork out the $2500+++
for a faulty washing machine. I know Trademe are now keeping a close eye on this auction (they will be expecting their fee$ at the end).

No doubt that bid will be removed, Why would an established Trader with a fairly good rating put a bogus bid on.

It did sell for $5160. I watched it. At 15 minutes to go the bid was $2210.
It Auto extended for about 15 minutes past the original finish time.

Pretty good price for a 20 yr old washing machine.

Hope the winner pays.

Mmmmm what did I do with my grandfathers Cut Throat Razor

It begs the question: "How does the purchaser intend to profit from their purchase?"

You don't shell out that much money for a dud machine unless you think you see a way to create value from it.

I'm pretty sure the buyer isn't the Tooth Fairy, Father Christmas, or a Fairy Godmother so I expect to see the saga followed up in the media in due course.

Cheers

Well both seller and buyer received positive feedback.

Well, if they take it on tour, I hope they put it up in the best Hotel rooms with hot and cold running women, the very best of fragrant ultra-fine soap powders and top grade water softeners, well filtered power generated from our most pristine lakes, full bar service, and maybe a cute little clothes dryer in a frilly dress on call to keep it entertained when it is not watching soap operas.

Of course as time goes by we can expect to see its dirty washing aired in public and under the intense scrutiny of the press it will probably have a breakdown and undergo cycliactric therapy, after which it will become an avid follower of Scientology.

It will need a deep colonic to clear the accumulated detritus from its internal plumbing, undergo plastic surgery to restore its youthful looks, a heart transplant is also on the cards along with a facelift, plus make-up to cover some of the signs of its previous hard life and an extended period away from the public view for intensive detox to get rid of that uncontrollable shaking.

After all of that, it will have lost its rustic charm and will eventually end up consigned to the scrapheap along with all the other one-day wonder celebrities.

Meanwhile, the dinosaurs will be signed by Disney, Peter Jackson will direct a mega-epic of their life with King Kong playing a bit part as the laundromat boy, but their overnight success will lead them down the sordid paths of Hollywood and they'll be found dead in a grungy motel room with a heroin needle still suck in a vein after an unhappy menage et trois love affair with a wannabe actress picked up on a night out on the Strip.

Media-created celebrities never last the distance.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Cheers
