I downloaded a .csv file from my online banking site. Not having Excel I opened with an old Works programme. However, now it won't open, won't delete, won't rename. It's obviously corrupted. Any ideas how to delete it please?

Getting any error when you try to delete it? If so whats it say?

Download Malwarebytes if you don't already have it and try the file assassin tool built into it.

This (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320081) is probably worth reading.

Run a chkdsk on the drive then delete

Or try FA. But I doubt it'll work

Downloaded Malwarebytes and ran File Assassin. Message said: File successfully deleted, but it's still there.

Try move on Boot (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Boot-Manager-Disk/MoveOnBoot.shtml) -- Sometimes works , sometimes doesn't.

if that doesn't work, try deleting it in safe mode -- IF that doesn't work, there has been times when I have had to load a live Linux CD, change the read/write to allow alterations ( if required) , then find the file, delete it , reboot back into windows.

Even that won't work-because the file is actually gone, but the "entry" is still there.

Had a few on my mums desktop, because Leopar accessing the windows share stuffed the name up..

So tried Move On Boot - Said: Congratulations you've deleted file but.............on restart it's still there. Thanks for suggestions - looks like I'm stuck with it. I've never actually gone into Safe mode on this computer, but I guess that's worth trying next. Cheers

Not really - also seen this happen - something is holding it, or putting it back on restart. I had one similar to that a few weeks back , it was actually an installed program holding it.

Try the linux live CD, navigate to the location and delete from there.

Thankyou, Thankyou, rob on guitar. Unlocker did the trick. I'm free of the wretched thing at last. Good call. Thanks to all for your suggestions - much appreciated. Cheers
