I'm currently using TightVNC from my laptop to my headless media server at home, and was just wondering:

- What is the difference between all the VNC's (tight/ultra/real etc)
- What is the most efficient/fastest?

I don't need any encrypted file transfer capability etc - just the basics as fast as possible.

I use Real VNC for LAN work, and Team Viewer over the internet.

I have also used www.mesh.com (Microsoft Live Mesh).. Its little slow compare to TightVNC (which I used in my previous jobs)

I use ultra, and ultra over hamachi for tricky situations.

I've used TightVNC for years now, after the version that I was using was spawning the java interface all the time... but VNC is a standard, so basically you're just picking an app based on "optional extras".
I gotta admit, Ultra VNC looks pretty good, might give it a whirl :)
