Hi everyone,

The people at Telecom are very unhelpful even when i can possibly decipher what they are saying....

Can my Samsung W531 work on the new XT network? Just remember that it does have a sim card slot.

Thanks Everyone!

And no thanks to telecom operators:annoyed:

You can go into a Telecom store and try a SIM card, see if that works, or try checking here too. Just because a phone has a SIM slot in no way means it will work on the XT network.

If these specs are right...

CDMA 800 /GSM Dualmode 900\1800

..then it won't. Telecom is running UMTS 850Mhz.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code

Check there under New Zealand and it tells you what different operators are running.

I just checked, it asked for my IMIE number, and I typed it. Apparently my phone does not exist

It doesn't look like your phone would work.

That's a great article, describes in a bit more detail what the difference is between various types of mobile transmissions.

Oh well,

I've only spent $2 of credit in the last 5 months, so looks like im not going to benefit from the new network anyway....

Wonder if you can still put a SIM card into the W531 and go to Ozz with it or have they now stopped this with the XT network coming on line. I have a SIM card and a 531 here at home but never used it in Ozz..

It won't... completely different network. Most phones on the pre-XT network won't work on the new XT network.

The pre-XT network is CDMA whereas the XT network is WCDMA.... Telecom will be supporting the CDMA network until 2012.

cheers,

At least you have nearly 3 years to save for the top of line phone when the CDMA goes!!!

i wonder if they will have some sort of trade-in thing for those who will have to fork out for a new fone :banana

Yea same,

Im hoping they give some type of trade-in, though i bet their first priority will be to get the vodafone customers onto their network before they even consider the faithfuls that have stuck by them for over 8 years...

But then, knowing telecom, they always have something up their sleeves (even though its mostly junk)

heres hoping.

there also ditching the $10 txt ands replacing it with 500 txt to any network for $12, that means buying more than $10 topups a month :(

its their way of making us buy more credit:

$20 = 1 month and $8 left
topup $20 = $16 left
One month without topup
topup $20 = $8 left...

Something like that, that way you HAVE to topup every month (unless you only text)
