I'm new to this Vista system, but my older brother took a bit of a nosy on my notebook, and made some changes to my lappie.

Now it takes only literally about 15 seconds to close down and not much more compared to about a minute to start up!

I can't exactly say what he did to tweak the system, but boy whatever he did it sure made things faster!

If anyone wants the info I charge by the hour! LOL

It's amazing what a little 'optimizing' can do to a Vista laptop preloaded with a heap of crap...

It's amazing what a little 'optimizing' can do to a Vista laptop preloaded with a heap of crap... :cool:You bet! I'm getting more and more tempted to stay with this Vista now. I still have the challenge of seeing if my usual XP apps will run, eg Macromedia and Office XP, and my games. Hmm, we'll see.

And given that I'm giving up my desktop I need some decent notebook speakers, I think. Not sure if my biggie ones will suit. More hmms. Fun fun fun! ;)

Office XP should run - I'm running Office 2000 on a secondary Vista PC. :D

Any program should work if its 32 bit vista. OTOH if its 64 bit, then avoid programs that install 32 bit drivers

Thanks for the feedback folks.

We'll see. (ps I don't know if it's 32 bit system but I believe it is... no doubt I'll soon find out!) ;)

Tell me how!!!

I just bought a 1yr old nc6400 - C2D 1.66GHz, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD.

Put in an extra 512MB RAM (1.5, will be 2 soon) and a 250GB SATA HDD, but it's still not very fast.

Takes >1min to start. Methinks too much HP crap!

HP have not only a lot more crap installed then Asus, But its in far deeper.

Format it, Install the OS from a unmolested cd.

I managed to get my HP laptop to a usable state after a couple of abortive attempts, But if I had a Vista cd I would format her instantly.

In the meantine you could try decrapifier.

My Toshiba starts up and shuts down in less than 1 minute with Vista Home Premium and it's not a flash one just turn off all the crap.
my AVG Security is the slow starter of the system.
