View Full Version : Formatting negative numbers

I use Microsoft Office 95 on a Pentium- 133. Frequently, in accounting applications, brackets are entered around negative figures instead of minus signs before them. I have found no way to do this in Excel. Is it possible to do this and, if so, how?
Is it possible to open in Word or Excel, in usable form, plain Ascii files that have been prepared by other applications?

I don't know if Excel95 supports this - I don't have it to try, but see if you can enter a custom format for the cells in question as: #.00;(#.00);0.00;
The three strings (separated by semicolons) and a fourth (left blank) are the format for positive ; negative ; zero ; text entries. If you don't want 0.00 for zero to be displayed - simply change it to whatever e.g. #.00;(#.00);; or more simply #.00;(#.00) would display blank for zero.
