    Default Getting rid of Google drop down suggested searches?

    When one types the first letter into Google search, it displays a whole list of previous searches starting with the same letter.
    Is it possible to delete this list and start from scratch?
    Thank you

    If it's just the history you want to delete :

    1. Click the arrow on the right-hand side of the Toolbar search box.
    2. Click the Clear History link.

    If it's the 'auto suggestions' you want to turn off :

    (If you have a "wrench" or "spanner" icon)
    1. Click the wrench icon on your Toolbar.
    2. Click the Search tab in the 'Toolbar Options' window.
    3. Deselect the 'Suggest searches as you type' checkbox.
    4. Click the Save button.

    (No "wrench" or "spanner" icon)
    1. Click the Settings button on your Toolbar.
    2. Select Options from the drop-down menu.
    3. Click the Search Box Settings button.
    4. Deselect the 'Suggest popular searches' checkbox.
    5. Click the OK button.

    Not sure what browser you are using or exactly what you want to delete, but I think that should cover most.

    Hi bevy121,
    Thanks for your advice.
    However I have tried:

    (No "wrench" or "spanner" icon)
    1. Click the Settings button on your Toolbar.
    2. Select Options from the drop-down menu.
    3. Click the Search Box Settings button.
    4. Deselect the 'Suggest popular searches' checkbox.
    5. Click the OK button.

    And this does not work for me for some reason.

    Actually I think we are talking about different things. You are talking about the auto suggestions for the toolbar search.
    And I am talking about the auto suggestions on my Google homepage search box.
    On the Google Home Page, I can't see any mention of settings.

    Download Ccleaner from my sig, install , dont install the tool bar from the options when installing, then run the program.

    Ccleaner deletes all that sort of rubbish.

    On the left when you first open it you will see a list of items it will clean Both in Applications and Windows tabs, untick any you don't want to clean out.

    Oh you mean just the start page search box.

    Easiest way for that is double click with the curser in the search where you type the keywords, that will open the dropdown with all the previous search terms.

    Move your mouse down to one of the previous search words to highlight it, then just hold the delete key down.

    It will scroll thru them all deleting them in a matter of seconds

    Yes Thanks bevy121, that's it, although I can't get it to scroll. It will only do them one at a time.

    Thanks wainuitech also

    If you are using Firefox:

    -> Tools
    -> Clear Private Data
    -> Check the "Saved Form and Search History" box
    -> Clear Private Data Now

    This will wipe out all your search histories and any other data that you have entered into textboxes for Google and all other websites.

    Hi bevy121, if you are still there.
    Your instruction works fine to delete them one at a time, but I can't find a way of deleting all of them at once. Holding the delete key down just deletes the one highlighted, not all of them. I have Internet Explorer 7.
