Default Excel forumula to calculate cost price

    Hi Guys

Sorry to be so dumb, but I am trying to use Excel to calculate the cost price of an item.

Say it will retail for $ 8.95 and the retailer wants to make 100% markup, I need a formula to give me the price I must sell it to the retailer at.

This is so that I can "Play" with several retail prices.

    Any suggestions ?
So what colour is your Adkaf?

If I understand you, and the price is in A1, the value of the markup is in A2 (in percent, with the % symbol in it), and the formula is in A3, it might be something like this:

    =A1*A2

Or if you have a column of prices(A1, B1, C1) and one markup value (A2), use an absolute

    =A1*$A$2

    Am I close?

    EDIT

Wait, I see. Try (where A1 is the price the retailer will sell at, A2 is his markup in percent, with % symbol, A3 is your wholesale price where the formula goes)

    =A1-A2/2

Assuming you cannot go under 50% of RRP. It might help if you explain it a bit more.

    =SUM(A1)/(100%+1)

Put the Retailers price in A1

This doesn't take into account GST
