    Default 2 things....

Can anybody recommend a descent CD/DVD repair kit and a Disc label maker (To actually label the disc itself)?

I have tried a few cheap disc repair kits and I find the work only 30%ish of the time.

As for the label maker i have had no experience in using these but would like to.

I had lots of problems running paper labelled disks after a period of time. The video forum I subscribed to had an almost overwhelming no-no vote on this method.

If I don't want to ink print a disk, I only use a black DVD marker pen.

I use Lightscribe which I find excellent. Writes directly on to the disk. No colour though, and permanent as it cannot be removed. You would have to by a new drive though.

Do you just get the drive with the package?

I agree with kenJ, too much ink for a start. Then I read on the net somewhere, there were balance problems in playing paper labeled discs in cd players.
Many sellers of discs on ebay for example, now use printable discs...

So I reverted back to the felt pen...

You need a Lightscribe DVD player/burner. Mine is an HP dvd640. I use Verbatim DVD+R Lightscribe enabled disks. The labelling program came with the drive and after completing my dvd burn I place the disk upside down in the burner and using the design program then burn all info required on to the label side of the disk. There is no weight problem as is caused by using paper labels. It is a great system, and one day will probably have colour available.

How long does it take to burn the label?

I've heard you wait a lot for it to get done.

Just a few minutes - gives an excellent result, even if it is monochrome

Yep! Couple of minutes. Time can vary depending on which pattern or background you choose as there is more detail to burn with some, but still only a few mins at most.

Another vote for Lightscribe. With a complex pattern it can take up to 15 minutes to burn. Additional templates available for download for print patterns. See here for more:
