Question need molex to 6-pin for pci-e

Hi all, my flatmate has just purchased a 7900GS but his PSU doesn't have a 6-pin PCI-E power connector. I know you can get an adapter that is molex to the 6-pin pci-e, I've tried a couple of computer sites and dse but can't find it, does anyone know where i can get one from?

    Cheers

Not really sorry, they aren't cheap, or easy to get hold of. How powerful is your mates PSU? Often if the PSU doesn't come with the correect cables, it will struggle to run a graphics card such as the 7900.

In the long run it may be better to get a new PSU.

I'm not sure how many watts his psu is, i'll have a look and maybe suggest to him to get a new one. i found one slightly cheaper at overclockers.co.nz but you're right they're not very common therefore not as cheap as chips!

    cheers

No worries...Power requirements for a 7900GS 256mb are minimum of 22A on the +12v rail, amperage is far more important than the wattage, go for a 450W minimum (more like 500W, esp if running lots of fans, hdds etc) with at least 22A on the +12v rail.

They usually come with all new PCIE cards that require the extra power. Did your mate purchase the 7900GS second hand? Have you asked the seller if he still has the cable?
    Meh....

they do? no i haven't asked the seller (yes it was second hand). I will ask him, if not I'm sure he wont be fussed parting with $15 for a new one.

That was a good point qazwsxokmijn made, it would be worth checking. Save a few $$.

Although I still reckon a new PSU is probably the way to go.
