Handheld air compressor for blowing out dust

Dear all,

Does anyone know where I can find a handheld air compressor for blowing out dust on heatsinks, fans etc?

Some of my client's PCs are caked up with so much dust and severely overheating the system. I have been using a big air compressor to blow out the dust, but would like to use a handheld one on site instead.

i don't know about handheld air compressors - but i usually crab a can of compressed air from Dick Smiths or something - it does the job rather well and a single can lasts ages

its a wee bit expensive but a can really does last a fair while

or you can take the whole pc apart, give it a good clean and put it back together again... thats what i always do (but only do it if you know what you are doing)

Thanks, I saw them on DSE's web site too, but I wan't sure how long they would last. On the big air compressor that I use, it only takes a few squirt, but it's a very powerful one.

I use 'sprayduster', from OPD, trouble is they dont last very long, the can get ICE cold.....and they are expensive.......for AIR for Christ's sake

Those "air" dusters usually contain a refrigerant not air.

I actually carry around a small 12 volt compressor that runs off the car. If a customers PC needs a blow out, simply take it outside, fire up the compressor and blow it out, that way you don't blow dust around the house either - I have changed the supplied hose to another with an air gun, its something like This here - but not this particular one. - Cheap to.

Or if you are brave/carefull/earthed..
use a SOFT long bristle paint brush to (carefully) clean & a vacuum cleaner to suck the dust the brush will kick up. Works very well.

Be carefull with air compressors that you dont blow dust INTO the power supply

Small main operated compressors I've seen are usually copies of "Thomas" (US) brand ones. They are sometimes used to power air brushes. I've seen them in art supplies shops at fairly high prices (~ $400).
