Default how to sell my idea to microsoft?

so here i am today at work and i come up with a cool idea.

I don't want to go in to detail in such a public place but its a better way to do hardware drivers.
no more spending three days finding the right driver for some random webcam you got on trademe.

how would I go about getting MS to give me $$ for the idea??

You must be joking- they have already patented it without you knowing

Set up a service yourself and when enough people take interest in it, Microsoft will come calling.

Isn't it just a matter of determining the chipset and going to the manufacturer's site and downloading the driver? How hard can it be?

Find a venture capitalist who will loan you the start up cash, ask your bank, ask MS direct,
patent your idea before you approach anyone about it.

OK so think 5 years down the line....

you just got a "2008 edition 3D-polyphonic hairdryer with USB support" for cheep, the manufacturer has gone under because they dident sell too well.
what if windows could just figure out what to do with it and you would not need to download drivers or put in a CD or anything.

Sell an idea to Microsoft? How can you be so nave? Microsoft don't buy ideas - they steal them.

Incidentally there is a better way to do hardware drivers. It's called a microkernel. The problem is gaining a strong enough user base and matching the performance of monolithic systems.
Why use a simple solution when a complicated one will suffice?

As an MVP, I have a direct line of communication with MS.
But - can I be trusted?

Have you read through all of MS's stuff on "Plug and Play"?

By your spelling and grammar, I would be skeptical. The best way is to first protect yourself and patent the idea, before you even discuss it with anyone. Contact a Lawyer.
