Default Want to allow only specified websites, block all others

    Hello all,
A different form of internet blocking is required, than what I have seen available.

We want to be able to allow only a particular list of websites (and access to other pages within the main website), and dissallow all others.

We can do this within Internet Explorer, however for example, when trying to access the Inland Revenue Website, you are able to go through the secure areas, however are unable to browse the general access areas of www.ird.govt.nz and do searches as it uses a different/invalid certification system compared to the Microsoft system.

Does anyone know of (reputable) programs that would allow this method of blocking?

Just on the one user computer rather than network level.

    Any help appreciated.

If anything I would do what your doing in Firefox rather than IE since "secure" and "IE" don't belong in the same sentence. You may have to purchase the necessary application that only allows you to access certain website pages from your computer and block all others since I don't think it exists as a freebe.

Is this just on one computer or several and are they all accessed from the same access point......ie router, proxy server or just one on dial-up?

Avast Pro lets u block URLS. But it isnt free.

But it wld most probably block everyone not just 1 user from going to a site.

It would have to be installed on the user's PC.

But you can also password protect it.

All unix, linux and bsd firewalls can do this.

All proxy/caching servers available on the above platforms can do this.

There are specific distros for this purpose - such as CentOS, Smoothwall, M0n0wall etc

    Thanks everyone.
Looking to control it more at the individual computer level, rather than network level. Thought about parental control programs, but I'm just not sure which ones allow you to block all websites apart from the ones on a specific list.

So it's not blocking a list of websites (As would have to have almost every website on the net) it's more allowing only a list of 20 or so and blocking everything else.

A couple ideas above, but any other ideas?
