Default Burning FLAC files to audio CD, using Nero

If I try to burn FLAC audio files to a CD using Nero, do they have to be converted to WAV for them to play on a regular CD player?

    Thanks.

not to sure of the top of my head.....dosn't the nero site say what files it supports?

it will depend on ver as well. for ealier vers of nero you have to use plugins for ogg etc.
    Tweak it till it breaks

No, it should burn it as a cda file, so it plays in a standalone cd player.

BUT, I cant see flac as an audio format in Nero 6. If you're using Nero 6.

    It may not accept it.

Only way to see if it actually works, is to try it.

Tried it out but doesn't work in a regular CD player.

I managed to add a plugin to Winamp which'll play them but really want to burn them (to CDA).

    Anyone know of a convertor?

Or, you could also try here. Best transcoder I've ever used.

Note: .cda and .wav files are exactly the same thing. AFAIK the files on the CD don't actually have any filetype (they are WAV data though) and the .cda things are tags Windows adds in an attempt to make your life easier.

If you need to convert FLAC files for CD, convert them to 44.1KHz 16bit wav - this is identical to what the CD uses, so you can avoid transcoding twice (Nero will convert any format you throw at it to this, providing it understands the source format).

Cheers. Nero didn't seem to recognise my Flac files, and unless I missed something, saw no way to save to either cda or wav.

But thanks for the input - will try again.

    Jetaudio Basic may convert them.

Not too sure if the Basic version has the option or not.

I know the + version does, but this isn't free.

Nero doesnt have the option, unless Nero 7 has the option. It wont save them as CDA, or wav. If it supports flac (Nero 7), it'll burn them to CD as CDA.

    Which is Audio CD format.

Thanks again folks. I've got a much better understanding now after doing some more research. The info about cda vs wav was interesting.

I got Mediacoder, and there is another highly recommended converter for multi-file types if I want.

    Cheers!

Bletch... have you got a link for where I can find the other settings for MediaCoder? Its interface is a confusing mess

Think I might go use something else - this one isn't exactly intuitive.
