Any Win '95 Users Out There?

Got a friend, (natch, or I wouldn't be doing this question thing)...

anyway......

He got presented a very olde (I think) 'puter with Win95 in it. After the splashes are all over and the sign-on screen goes off, it has an error message like this:

PCTCPAP1083
4.01 pc/TCP
PCTCPAPI.DLL error

OK...I Googled it and got really more confused than ever. Even though 95 is not before my time, I never used it and have little knowledge of it. I might have been drinking a lot those years too...I forget.

Started in SAFE MODE and did a diskscan, defrag (it is not on line).

I am not even sure what the CPU speed is or much anything else...I cannot get past this error message.

It won't go to the control panel in non SAFE MODE or much more than the Windows 95 screen and then...poof...error message and freezes.

Any ideas besides burning it all down and putting something a little less ancient in it? Maybe I should see what that little red switch on the back does.

I got 98SE, 2000/Pro, ME, XP-Pro. I won't even TRY anything over 98 though. I'd like to see this error fixed for personal reasons.

All I came up with is it may be not loading the drivers for the modem, try ripping it out if its got one.

Just out of interest, if you wanted it, which part of the country would it be going to?

As it is it will just end up being kicked around the back of the shop untill I cant remember if its going or not....... Also got a couple of boxes running W98.
