Alternative to backing-up on CD

I'm thinking of doing a clean re-install of Win XP Pro. Does anyone know an alternative to backing up all my data onto blank CD's? or an external hard-drive, which I won't be able to get my hands on.

Get a copy of Partition Magic or similar, create another partition eg D:\ & back up to that.
Or even better buy a cheap 40 or 80GB drive install it as a slave & back up to that

Network another computer and transfer to it?

Ghost it using high compression and span it over 1800 - 2000 floppies. :-)
But seriously I use ghost to burn an image to dvd, keep the same image on a partition and also keep a copy on a bootable usb 2 external drive.
