Default Warning - Westpac Bank Scam

    Hi everyone

Just thought you should be warned that there is a bogus email doing the rounds purporting to be from Westpac. Hubby received the following today:

    "Dear Westpac Bank Member,

This email was sent by the Westpac server to verify your e-mail address. You must complete this process by clicking on the link below and entering in the small window your Westpac Banking Customer ID and Password. This is done for your protection --- because some of
our members no longer have access to their email addresses and we must verify it.

To verify your e-mail address and access your bank account, click on the link below. If nothing happens when you click on the link, copy and paste the link into the address bar of yourweb browser.

    --------------------------------------------------
Thank you for using Westpac Bank!

This automatic email sent to: (hubby’s email address)
Do not reply to this email."

Yes, and I just discovered I received it too - IHUG treated mine as spam (and deleted it for me), but not hubby's for some reason.

It _appears_ to be now taking you to the westpac trust Privacy Policy page.

Perhaps somebody alerted WestPac and they forced the people to change the website so it now redirects to that page?

The @*** part really gives it away in the URL that something's up!

    Thanks for the warning.
I had a similar one a while ago, ostensibly from PayPal

No Chill, that is also part of the scam, it redirects through 2 other urls including a Russian one before getting to Westpac Australia, and you still get a window asking for verification of iD and password.

I got it too, sent to a dummy email account I use at work for incoming stuff off the web.

I've just sent a copy of it off to Westpac.

Thanks for the warning Oxie. Have not received it myself but know lots of teenagers with WestpacTrust accounts so will pass the warning on to them.
