The biggest news at the moment is OpenOffice 1.0 which is XP compatible. You can download at www.openoffice.org or get it off the CD in the latest July PCWorld magazine.

I've purchased Sun's StarOffice 1.0 which is the same as OpenOffice except I pay USD75 for several additional things.

OpenOffice is free, will run in Windows as well as Linux. You can open and save files in 2000 or XP format. You get Write (for word processing), Calc (for spreadsheet), Draw (for graphics) and Impress (for presentation). Only thing missing is an Access equivalent.

I've got mine running on my Laptop running Win ME.

Hi, you might want to have a read of this article Free Vs Fee

You may also want to consider previous versions of Microsoft Office such as Office 97, which you can get for a good price if you look around.

yep. I have (or had) office 2000, but i had it installed on my old computer, and laptop.
since then I have got 2 new computers, and since you can only install it twice. i have wasted my money buying it.

You can install it on your new computers if you remove it from your old ones - although it might require a phonecall to NZ Microsoft to get a new activation or whatever.

just use your old activation code. the microsoft guy i spoke to said to write it down in case you reinstall it. after several upgrades its still works.
