    Default new mouse - remote

bought a new mouse, remote. The new mouse comes with what appears to be an USB. Replaced the old USB with the new one into the tower, neither mouse works
The old USB only works with the old mouse, screen and keyboard
The new USB doesn't work at all
    Am I missing something?

Put batteries in the new mouse?!
They are often already installed and you need to remove the paper tab to engage the battery.
Usually the switch is already in the on position but check that as well.
Each USB dongle will only work with the mouse it came with.

You are removing the "old" USB before trying the new one? I do not think your system will be happy with two separate ones connected at the same time.

Did you have a mouse/keyboard combination before? If so you needed to get the same again. The keyboard will not work with just the new mouse USB. The new mouse USB is just for the mouse, not the combination of both.

Yea if you had a keyboard / mouse wireless combo before then you'll need to leave the old USB dongle in the PC, as well as the new dongle, so that the keyboard will still work.
What make model are they all?
Some of the Logitech wireless stuff can be linked to a different USB dongle.

OK so different brands so you'll definitely need to keep both USB dongles plugged in, the old one for the keyboard and the new one for the new mouse.

both dongles plugged in - the old one works on the screen and the keyboard - the new one is useless - shall I take it back?

I wouldn't (YET) what I would do is put the New one into another Computer that has not had the old one first, see if it work on another PC.

If its still not working check that any batteries are good, ( even brand new batteries can be bad) check that there is no hard to see on/off switch (seen them hidden before) and see if there's any "connect" button, often tiny.

You need to see where the problem actually is, you could look a bit silly taking it back, they plug it in and it works perfectly.

Has similar today (different problem) went to a job today the owner had spent 2 1/2 hours with vodafone trying to sort a internet problem, he was reasonably sure it was vodafone. Found the fault in under 3minutes. ( it wasn't vodafone)

One thing positive about Windows 10 is that there is never a dull moment anymore on ye olde computer
