Default New bathroom and en suite needed where to buy?

I need to renew our en suite we have been in our place for 14 years and the existing sanitary ware is getting a bit tired especially the en suite which gets used the most.
So where is the best place to purchase bathroom suites etc with out breaking the bank are places like Lennox Bathroom - Hamilton any good or is it all Chinese stuff which will not last.
Or any suggestions that any one has used and had good service, based in Tauranga but prepared to travel to obtain a bargain!

Really, Mitre10, Bunnings and the like.
    Or Franklins...if you have one.

Cheaper than the likes of Mico Wakefields,Chesters etc. And most of it is all the same.

Yes there is the chinese crap, but even so.....

My son works for a bathroom place. They supply them all, Mitre10, Micos etc.
Not the only ones but those places are big customers.

They import stuff, they also make a certain amount of cabinetry.

Nearly all of it is made in china.
But there is Made in china and Made BY china.

Some of the posh italian stuff is made IN china too.

Now, there were these sinks, the pedestal type. The chinese ones. Look fine, lovely, sell for quite a bit.
    Son broke on one day.
The pedestal is hollow. Inside was - dried rice.
OK, rice is probably an ok filler, makes it lighter.

But it was the mummified rat buried in it that he thought was a bit off.

Then there are the specs. Non-straight edges, non-standard plug holes, bubbles in the procelain, that sort of thing.

Too many rejects, so they changed some of the suppliers.

Some of the chinese stuff is fine. Some is not. You, the buyer, can just take it back and get another if there are any issues.

Me, I hate some of the "fancy" stuff. I've seen too much, how it's made, whats involved.

I had a posh english loo once, porcelain, no plastic.
    What piece of ****.

I now have a standard caroma set, with slimline cistern. It's great. Cheap as dirt, At the time $139 from Bunnings, cheaper now.

Husband can tell you about taps, mixers etc.
Some of the cheap stuff is good, what he doesn't like is the ones with the ceramic inners. They crap out in no time and cost more than a new mixer for the inner.

Methven is still good, albeit not cheap.
Franklins tend to be cheaper for that sort of thing, mixers and stuff.

Lennox is all Chinese however just got a mirror from them cheaper than I could get on my Mitre10 staff account from work. I wouldn't buy there other fittings though

We did a little reno recently. did a lot of research had a good look around. We weren't looking for fashionable, just clean and functional.

Mitre 10 had a pretty good rang of whiteware and we were able to sort out what we wanted fairly quickly, although we weren't too sure on the taps, so got some NZ ones.

I get the impression 90% of the porcelain is chinese and the other 10% could be doubtful. There is cheap Chinese and good Chinese,

you can usually sort out what grade it is by looking at the product and who's selling it.

The Chinese should be able to do a superb job, after all they did did invent porcelain!

Also ask M10 to give you a quote for all of the things you need and they should be able to give you a deal. That's part of my job down here in Nelson

Before any purchase I would consult with your plumber first, that's better then him turning up and telling you have purchased wrong gear for existing plumbing.

I would pick out your fixtures and then ask your plumber to quote for those items. Often they get good trade deals. It is better to pay more for a known good quality mixer than a cheaper 'import' brand, as once they are behind tiles/wall it becomes very expensive if they fail.

I agree that your plumber should be able to use his discounts to your advantage. Recently we had new flooring installed in our toilet area and we wanted to replace the toilet at the same time. I had no idea that there were so many different types of loos. I always thought a loo was just a loo. Certain ones will fit your existing plumbing and others would require more plumbing costs and I assume the same would apply to the rest of your fixtures. The flooring people worked in so well with the plumber and vice versa. Looking back it was a bit of a headache knowing where to begin but each tradesman went that extra mile.

If the plumber is from a large, national, many offices firm, then possibly.
If they are not, don't expect a lot of discount.

Husband often bought things from Mitre10, Franklins.
Because the prices at the suppliers were often far worse. even with his discount. (Although that is also based on how much they buy, so really big firms, bulk buying, obviously do better)

With regard to things like taps, shower fittings, mixers etc anyway.

Most of the big firms don't pass on the discounts anyway, they use it to help offset their overheads.
