Wouldn't be at all surprised if "the computer Guy" used a fake licence of some sort. That may sound a bit blunt but its straight to the point. Seen it happen countless times.

Most of the time its the pro versions of Windows that are used when they do these sorts of things.

You really don't need pro, the differences between Home and pro you will never use, and home is cheaper. ( around $160ish)

Microsoft may offer to sell you a pro, but depending on what he's done it may not be able to be installed.

First give him the chance to supply you the Pro Licence you should have paid for. otherwise, as everyone else has advised he needs to be reported.

BTW a pro licence is around the $240 mark.( normal price, not Wholesale price)

Did you pay for windows, you don't actually say anywhere I noticed. The only legitimate way you would have windows 10 pro without paying for it would be if He'd used the insider preview which is also dodgy if he did it without your knowledge.

    I see 3 possibilities here
    1. You paid for windows and there is some weird issue with the license that can be sorted - seems unlikely and you may need a key to talk to MS
    2. You paid for windows and got ripped off, the guys owes you a key or a pro COA
    3. You didn't pay for windows, got given a "free" upgrade when there actually is no such thing and now need to buy a copy of windows.

If it had been 7 or 8 then legitimately you wouldn't have or need a COA because the upgrade would be tied to the hardware and would activate any time you needed to reinstall. That's not the case with Vista though, unless he upgraded it to 7 or 8 first. You really need to talk to this guy.

Either he used a pirated license, or he's left Win10 in demo mode

Youre in a pickle. No one will give you a $200+ lic for free. Not even MS , they wont do anything about it

I have to ask, just WHY did he load Win10 on it ?
sometimes there is more to the storey , eg customer never had any valid Win lic to start with , or COA is unreadable(worn off), or customer wants something for free.
or the tech who this did was a moron .

given it was that long ago, maybee you do have a valid lic & a software glitch is causing thi issue (it can happen)
Whats the EXACT wording of the message

    Something certainly is right.

Once you can supply the Answers 1101 asked, then more advise can be given.

BUT either way you have to do something about it, sooner than later.
*Once your build reaches the license expiration date, your computer will automatically reboot approximately every 3 hours. As a result of this, any unsaved data or files you may be working on, will be lost.
    * The computer will no longer boot, 2 weeks after the license has expired.

    just to complicate things

theres malware that does this. A scam that throws up the about to expire message
Malware/virus MIGHT explain the PC running so slow (could also be other causes)
    https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove...-support-scam/

so , more info needed . A screen shot if possible .

Strangley, if Win10 is installed without any install key, it just keeps working regardless (with a few minor limitations).
Ive a very old laptop running 10 without install key & not activated (just to see what happens). Still waiting for it to expire , been months now .

It will (or should) keep going till the cows come home There are just restrictions in place so you cant change certain items, so its not fully functional.

What's suspect is the comment originally
This last week it comes up with license about to expire.
We had this same problem last year and he said he fixed it, using Teamviewer.
Hmmmmm twice getting the same infection to cause the same message ? while not impossible --welllllllll

Depending on what ianhnz replies to the questions, Have a theory if its not legit, but will get to that if needed.
