Default How to make C: drive partition larger?

I have a 500GB SATA drive partitioned as C: drive @ 50GB for Windows etc and the balance is another partition, D: drive (My Docs etc).

I need to make C: drive larger to perhaps about 80GB.

If I use "Start> Settings> Control Panel> Admin Tools> Computer Management> Disk Management" will I be able to increase C: without any problems?

    Thanks in advance, Peter.

No, it won't let you shrink D: from the start of the partition, only the end. You'll need to use third party software like EaseUS Partition Manager (the free one is fine).

Why do you need a larger C partition? You can put some of the software, data files, swap file etc on D partition. Bad policy to keep your data on the same partition as Windows.

Oh! I hadn't thought of this option. How do you suggest I do this and which data files could I shift? With Windows Explorer?

My "D" drive has about 30GB of 'stuff'.

I recently used partedmagic and that did the trick with no issues. Just burn the ISO to a CD and boot from it. Free to download.

Acronis Disk Director does the job but it's not 'free', though.
