Default Firefox won't open magnet torrent links

I want to download some physibles from tpb for my 3d printer, and all of a sudden it seems Firefox can't handle them any more.
When I click on magnet links I get this sort of message:
Firefox can't find the file at magnet:?xt=urn:btih:d529ff996af06f99722bac7e7ced0c 59e503d106&dn=3D+Printer+Design.stp&tr=udp://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80&tr=udp://tracker.publicbt.com:80&tr=udp://tracker.ccc.de:80.

I have searched the web and found some supposed registry change that will do it like this:
    REGEDIT4
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmagnet]
    @="URL:magnet Protocol"
    "URL Protocol"=""
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmagnetshell]
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmagnetshellopen]
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTfooshellopencommand]
    @=""C:\Program Files (x86)\Vuze\Azureus.exe""

    But that makes no difference.

The weird thing is that Chrome works with them fine, so it isn't the end of the world, but I do prefer Firefox (please, no flame war on that debate). On that basis, I disabled my adblocker, in Firefox, to see if that made any difference. It didn't.

Does anyone know what the story is?

Try upgrading your bittorrent client or reinstalling it?
Non-system disk or disk error. Replace and strike any key when ready.

What 3D printer do you have as I'm quite heavily involved in the RepRap community
If it is not broke, don't make it broker by trying to make it better. (This applies specifically to PJ)

And don't think it is Vuze, it works fine with magnet links from Chrome, and it is the latest version.

Haven't actually printed anything, want to try a small test shape but haven't been brave enough. Still a little nervous about how X axis goes opposite way to the arrows in the control software, but not sure if that is just my point of view. Test print should answer that.

The links are a problem everywhere, but particularly here:
    http://thepiratebay.se/browse/605

As I say though, it works on Google Chrome, all magnet links, but none do from Firefox. Same with magnet links on eztv.it also.

I would try a small test cube first there are some on thingiverse 10mmx10mmx10mm such as this one here. They are what I started with as they don't use much plastic and are quick to make. If the motor is going the wrong way it's usually just a case of swapping a couple of the wires over they can be removed from the plugs by pushing a pin into the slot on the back of the plug, or I think it can be done in the firmware too

Hmm. Just in case your registry data is just not displaying properly, mine is below (FF install that loaded the magnets from that Pirate Bay link just fine):

    Code:
    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Magnet]
    @="Magnet URI"
    "URL Protocol"=""
    "Content Type"="application/x-magnet"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Magnet\DefaultIcon]
    @="\"C:\\Program Files\\uTorrent\\uTorrent.exe\",0"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Magnet\shell]
    @="open"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Magnet\shell\open]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Magnet\shell\open\command]
    @="\"C:\\Program Files\\uTorrent\\uTorrent.exe\" \"%1\""
... obviously I use uTorrent, but the same should apply if you just replace the uTorrent bit with your Azureus path.

Well, I did that. Ran regedit, found the entries manually, they look okay.
    Still same response.
I wonder if it is some weird security setting in Firefox maybe? If Chrome works okay on same PC, then the associations should be okay regardless, so that seems unlikely to be the problem.

Am I wrong to dislike Chrome so much? My son loves it, but he's 19, what does he know?
