Default How to make Windows 7 Task bar transparent?

    Hi there,
This little problem is somewhat driving me insane.
Randomly today my taskbar changed from being see-through to a horrible sky blue colour.
I have done my research and outcomes that have made other peoples taskbar transparent have not worked for me, such as changing the theme of your computer to one of the Aero ones. Still my Taskbar reamins light blue.
    Help would be great, cheers.

You will not have the Transparency option if you have a Basic and High Contrast Theme instead of a Aero Theme.

Aero Requirements to be Enabled in Windows 7:
NOTE: If Aero is not enabled, then Transparency will not work even when enabled.

    * 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
    * 1 GB of system memory
    * Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (in order to enable Aero theme)
    * You must be have True Color (32 bit) set instead of High Color (16 bit).
    * The desktop composition and Animate controls and elements inside windows options need to be enabled in Visual Effects.
    * The Desktop Window Manager Session Manager and Themes Services need to be set as Started and Automatic.
    * Refresh or update your WEI score. You will need an WEI score minimum of 2.0 in both Graphics & Gaming graphics in order for Aero to be activated.

My laptop meets all those requirements, and transparency was working with my custom and aero themes, until today, where my task bar just isn't transparent at all, no matter what theme im using

Wainui's answer "should" fix the problem, another thing i'd recommend is checking that your graphics card's drivers are up to date.

One other note, some applications (such as flight simulator x) don't support aero, so whilst they are running transparency will be disabled. Did you install/run any new applications just before the problem developed?

When I right click the desktop - select personalise - then select window colour at the bottom I don't get a screen that looks like that one shown, I get this screen: http://lh4.ggpht.com/_CSGl1PT-aYo/Sb...6vlTBaeQ/image[3].png

Thats the Window for the basic - the aero is damaged.

As Error guy posted "i'd recommend is checking that your graphics card's drivers are up to date" or even reinstall the graphic Drivers, they are what controls the Aero.

Ok, I'll update my drivers later this week, I don't understand why it randomly just stopped being transparent all of a sudden.

If click the Start orb and type "Aero" into the search, you should get troubleshooter in the results called something like "Find and fix problems with transparency". Click that and run it, it might not fix every problem but it checks the basics and gives you a report at the end.
