If Utorrent and Skype processes are not running how can they use data, however if they are turned to sleep but not actually off then they can
can utorrent, skype, xbox console use broadband when they are not 'running'?
mum rang up telecom and asked about internet usage and the tech person said even though utorrent and skype are not on/open they consume broadband?
to me this sounds like bs because they are not running in task manager when im on my laptop , not using them all the time.
i make sure they are not running in taskmanager or startup.
then there's the xbox 360, the telecom tech claims it uses broadband all the time(its plugged into the router via ethernet)
cheers

If it is not broke, don't make it broker by trying to make it better. (This applies specifically to PJ)

yeah i know, downloading linux iso's, recovery cds etc does add up quickly when your d/l at 6-700kb/s though.
but the xbox using the net all the time , i can't figure that one out??

It sounds like whoever it is @ telecom doesn't know what they're talking about. How can an Xbox use anything when once you turn it off, there's no data going to the router?
but even when its on, all we do is play games 'offline' so....
the tech also asked if we run Mcaffee![]()

An Xbox may use data even if you play offline (like I do, since I'm not paying for a gold acct), since it logs into MSN. If you've configured it. Well, Mcafee is a different matter. I suppose any internet suite will automatically update itself. Unless you change it
Not running in task manager
I don't use msn on the xbox, it only auto logs into xbox live
I'll have a look at the upload settings in utorrent, I think it's set quite low from memory

Umm if it logs into Xbox live its logging into messenger ( I think). Do you get messages (showing top right on the Xbox)??? If you do thats messenger
nah, you can set the auto login for both xbox live and messenger.
it doesnt log into msn
