Yeah but I would've thought a pc tech would have such things. Unless she did what I did with my XP Home SP2 CD and accidentally mailed it with a motherboard sold on trademe.

Yes I personally went from XP to Win7. Like any sensible person would.
I thought I had a Vista disk - one I got from another tech but it turned out to be pre-release which is totally useless. I had not had to use one until now.
I had very few totally dead Vista fixes, most were fixable or customers had their recovery disks. Did not have any with an actual real Vista disk.
I did NO builds ast all using Vista, I sold one and only one laptop with Vista. Everyone else refused and stuck with XP. So no opportunity to ensure I had a copy. And nor was I buying the thing just so I had a spare disk handy.
I never had an XP Media Centre disk either until extremely recently.
I did however, have Win95, Win98, Win98SE, Win ME and Win2K. I evicted the oldest of those just the other day.
I still have original disks for DOS6.22. Why when I no longer have a FDD I don't know.
This silly twit who bought her laptop in, had ignored my advice to:
A)Install anti-malware
B)MAKE some recovery disks
She waited until Windows was a total write off and even the recovery partition thingy (Its a Toshiba) is stuffed, so I either have to do the thing from scratch or she has to pay enormous amounts for a set of Recovery CDs from Toshiba. And then still have me set it up properly.
How it comes to be Vista beats me, her son bought the thing for her just before Xmas. Ir should be WIn7.

It would have been a clearance product - you should see if it's eligible for a free upgrade to W7. I recently helped a friend buy a laptop, and when she spoke to a salesperson at Harvey Norman (I know, I know) was told that all of their clearance Vista laptops had a free upgrade to W7 (well - free meaning you pay a $30 shipping and handling charge, and they mail you a disk and key from the US).

I try to remember to make an ISO of every original disc that we get in the workshop.
Helps for times like this and had many customers who have lost discs for office etc but still have the case with the license number.
