    Re: Electricity use

We've got an old chest freezer and I'm sure the seal is poked. Probably costs us a fortune. I do have some el-cheapo power meter thing, I should hook it up and see what the freezer is drawing.

    Re: Desktop icons at startup.

Dead right. Re-arrange the icons how you want, then do a restart, not shutdown - that should sort it.

    Re: Desktop icons at startup.

I've done.....30? 40? maybe more, never seen that once. As has been mentioned, just right click/arrange by... then go from there.
  4. Re: Software to monitor 6 year olds use of games etc on ipad / iphone

I know Samsung have a 'kid mode' app, that is handy. There are various other apps available for android that can restrict it in certain ways. Not sure if iOS has a similar thing or not.

    Re: WIFI on my Laptop

What is the model of laptop? Some older (much older) HPs had a bit of an issue where the mini PCI slot would fail, causing the wireless card to not be detected. This was generally a precursor to the...

Yeah it's a shame they removed that option on the right click menu.
  8. Re: I do wish global warming woudl hurry up and come to NZ.

I think what he's getting at is 'global warming' is a bit of a silly term - sure, the overall trend for the last little while is that the planet is getting slightly warmer, but what we're actually...

    Re: VDSL Issue

Out of the two modems you've got there, I'd go for the Asus, if you are getting serious though, there are other options that would be even better, however the configuration is more complex.

    I...

    Re: Activate Windows!!!????

I've had a few issues this last week with activation. Think there is something weird at MS's end. Can you wait a few days and try again? Or failing that, as has been mentioned, try a phone activation.

Re: Speed up my computer recomendations

    Re: Aluminium Window latch

Assuming you have the correct drivers though, it's a lot harder to stuff up a square head than a phillips or pozi.
