A friends slow PC, running Win XP with 125Mb RAM, slow as a wet week. Anyway, after running Spybot & Adaware Ive run Hijack this.

Now while I appreciate your viewing and commenting on the file below, can you please explain what sort of things I should be looking for to determine the PCs state of health.

Thanks John in Mosgiel

One reason would be the amount of ram he's/she's got. 128mb is not enough for XP. Get more, it might speed things up. Or lose the colours in XP (which may help), but I would still get 512+ MB of ram for XP.

If you paste your log here (http://www.hijackthis.de/index.php#anl)

If it shows any nasty entries, do a search in Google (http://www.google.com) or Yahoo (http://www.yahoo.com) on the entry with nasty beside it.

This will usually tell u whether its spyware / a trojan etc, in which case, u would tick the entry in HJT. Some entries may not be nasty (as in spyware etc), they maybe memory hogs, and take up a bit of ram, just running on startup.

In which case, the entry should be ticked in HJT.

And running Nortons firewall on 128mb is NOT a good idea. That'll be one reason why things are slow.

This entry isnt needed in startup. Run it manually. Tick it in HJT and tick fix checked.
