Doesn't that just rock you boat in a nauseating way?

I hate it when things get cheaper.........NOT!

Being an ex employee at retail store it is hard to blame anyone at store level. These prices are normally kept away from them as well for obvious reasons.

Fact of life really, electronics always get cheaper. It should be expected. It is always harder to accept when it gets cheaper the day after you buy.

Jack, I'm honestly not suprised at your reaction. You've being like that since.... god knows.

Perhaps next time you do something -you may want to ask here first. It seems everytime your doing things your not supposed to. Who the heck buys a ADSL Modem/Router for $176....! I'd say it's your own fault.

sam m> I truly agree. I'd be leaving for work today hoping I won't get nasty customers.

Personally I would spend that amount on an adsl router/modem, But that would be to get a fully featured quality unit, Both of the 2 I currently use cost around that amount, My prior units didn't ,and they were crapola.

As for Jack, Tough, You could have made an informed purchase, Instead your run off to the bright lights of Harvey Normans and paid too much for crap, They rely on people exactly like you...the mindless consumer.

Sound's like Murphy's Law to me.

Could you return it? Do they have a 14 day money back guarantee no questions asked, like DSE?

Then get yourself another one at another Harvey Norman at the cheaper price, or get someone to get one at the same store for you?

Firstly Belkin modems are not crap. They are top quality.
Secondly I am more than satisfied with it's performance.
And that is what matters.
According to adverts. 256 broadband should be up to six times faster than dial up. I am over seven times faster while downloading. For web browsing pages load almost instantaniously. (No time to light a smoke.)

A bit of searching revealed that $176 is about the average price. Some are advertising over $200.

All I am complaining about is the huge price reduction two days after I bought it. It will probably go up again tomorrow.

Do whatever you like Jack -but I agree with metla. How would you know they're top quality if it's the first ADSL modem you've brought. Since when did Belkein become a specialist in modem making? They're just supermarket modems, similar to HP and the likes (but then you have a HP don't you ;))

As for the price, would you rather pay $500 for a $50 item or $100 for an $80 item?

Yeah, loaded with stuff about how awful Asus is. Not my personal opinion of course. But what's your point? Nearly any manufacturer can be shown as crap like this.

Metla
26-12-2004, 06:04 PM
George, Did you even bother to read or scan through the results?

No?

Obviously not.

A google of Asus and crap brings up reults were people use the 2 words in the same sentance.

A search fro Belkin and crap beings up 10 000 reults were people call the product card.

See the difference?

george12
26-12-2004, 07:05 PM
Well, I did scan through the results actually.

Although I do not dispute that Belkin is MORE crap than Asus, however crap or not either are, I can see very easily that results you are speaking of are there for both.

"Forum - Why Asus sucks"
"Asus drivers is no good"
"clean off the asus crap"

Admittedly these results are not as common, nor as matching..... But the point remains... Sort of ;)

I fail to see how anyone who has not owned a product can have an opinion of it. Or do you just believe everything you read?
I had never heard of Belkin before, but it was the best immediately available in Rotorua.
The average price seems to be between $170 and $206 . So I didn't pay over the odds.
I merely had a grizzle because it went on sale two days after I bought it.
It works well and I am satisfied with it.
Enough said.
Just wondering what Metla uses. Probably a Lucent.

I sympathise with you too, Jack. It really brasses me off to see the price reduced just after buying something. Usually though, I spend so long procrastinating about what I want that things come down in price by the time I make up my mind. :p

snap

and then I procrastinate even more because the price drop often means another model is coming out that could be even better :stare:

I for one don't have a problem with Jack expressing his annoyance over such an annoying annoyance.

It pisses of everyone when that happens.

As for modem brand, Jack says he is happy with it. If he has bought something and he is happy with it, what is the point of insulting his choice, whether such things may be true or not.

Perhaps for future reference for others, but in cases like this it is rude.

Say you buy something - say a "great" new Packard Bell computer. Imagine you are very very happy with your purchase. Then someone comes along and says "You idiot, didn't you know that you could get it for half that price at blah? And what a crap brand it is, too!".

How would this affect how happy you were about the product?

Enough ranting. Someone answer my graphics card thread!

Sigh.

Well JJJJJ was just posting about having purchased a product and then seeing it discounted signficantly days later. It has happened to all of us, and yes it is annoying - but that is life.

I really don't think he needed to hear how his choice was crap or other such comments when he is obviously quite happy with his modem and didn't have a complaint nor asked your opinion on it.

~sy~, metla, baldy and ninja - there was no need to have digs at JJJJJ or another forum member in this thread. Try to keep things nice please.

Id like to apologise for my first comment that was unusually flippant, and could have been taken in so many ways. It would appear that some took it as a cue to launch an attack on JJJJJ, and posted things that could be taken in no other way.

Perhaps i should have posted something like "**** happens man, and don't worry about it." and been a little clearer. Perhaps even that would have been taken as a cue for a slag fest?

While we all know that the $1000 product we buy this year will be worthless in about a year, as the same kind of thing or something better will be available for about half the price within that time. JJJJJ, I FULLY REALISE THAT IT IS REAL ANNOYING TO SEE IT HAPPENING OVERNIGHT JUST AFTER ONE HAS SPENT NEW PRICE TIMES TWO!

It is however good news for everyone who hasn't yet bought the product, as they can get a better deal than JJJJJ did. That was the point i was trying to make.

Like many of us i spent several thousand on my first proper computer, whose specs would now be embarrassing, and i am fully aware that its financial value as scrap metal is now probably higher than its resale value as a computer.

JJJJJ despite having paid more than you would liked to have on an ADSL modem, i hope you are now enjoying it.

Actually this happened to me with a software purchase over the internet last year. I bought an upgrade to my "outdated version" at the full price, then two days later the same company emailed me "as a loyal customer", and informed me that there was a special offer on the same upgrade for a vastly reduced price...

The red mist came down over my eyes (as it apparently did with multiple Js) so I stamped my tiny feet via a scorching email to the US of A, and they bowed thrice in my direction and refunded the difference to my grateful credit card. Wow! :D

I can appreciate where Gerry is coming from. This is my first posting to this forum and must say I was surprised by the amont of insulting language directed at forum members. Anyway, I purchased a Belkin ADSL modem and had trouble getting it to work. I took it back to Harvey Normans and they replaced it immediatly with a Dynalink so I was very happy with their attitiude.
One final point. I think (I may be wrong I admit) but if you are purchasing a product you can ask for the store to confirm that the price is not going to be reduced within the next two weeks. If it is then by law they must tell you. Check that out!

What trouble did you have getting it to work?
I noticed when I installed mine that the defaults were all for Australia. I changed them and it worked perfectly.
One other thing I noticed was that some of my e-mails were not being sent and some ware not being received. The solution. The modem has a fire wall that is activated automaticly. De-activated it and it has worked perfectly ever since.

I can't remember. It was about Jan/Feb 2004. I think I did everything right but it wouldn't connect. I have purchased other Belkin products in the past and had no trouble with them. In addition I could not get any help from Belkin themselves, they didn't seem interested. The Dynalink on the other hand worked perfectly from the start.

Take it back and say you dont need it as you didnt understand fully what telecom/xtra was going to be installing.

Get your money back in your hand.

Then line back up at the counter and buy it again, but this time see if you can get a discount for a slightly used model. :D

There is no way that any store anywhere would tell you the price is going to be reduced. Half the time, even the store managers don't know. There is no obligation to tell anyone what is coming up on special.
