It's utter crap about storing 500 songs on the Philips thing. You should be able to get up to 800, or even 1000 at worse quality.

I can fit about 100 songs on a 256MB thumbdrive, encoded at VBR 32-96kbps. The thing is, listening on crappy generic earbuds, you won't be able to notice a difference between 320, 160, or 96kbps MP3s.

I think it's also worth noting that you're not likely to ever need to have even 2GB of music at your fingertips - with potentially 800 songs, would you really get through them all during periods of time when you listen to them? At an average of three minutes per song (being lenient), that'd equate to 40 hours of music. Even taking into account a desire for a decent range, you don't need that much music (unless you are planning a long roadtrip or some such similar thing).

Different strokes for different folks, 4G for me would never be enough storage...who the hell would want to be deleteing and transferring files all the time...the wise move would be get a device that can hold every single song you have, and every single song you may source over the next year or 3.

As for low quality mp3's?

Why would you do that?

Strange.

bad quality audio sucks ass.

Well I have around 1.2Gig of music, well not any more I think... lost them in a computer crash/reformat, but im sure i backed them up somewhere on old computer but all my music is in the Q of 192kbps.
I'm on USB 1.1 so if i do go over 2 Gig then I will need to keep transfeing music from computer to mp3 player on USB 1.1

But then agen the HDD070 is smaller / better looking *I* think ah so hard. lol

i would go for the one with more storage space

I would go for the one YOU like ~ not what others are recommending. But in saying that, I'd go for the one with bigger storage. I agree completely with Metla re: soundquality too
