Im still umming and aaaring.

Not really keen on how the messages from users at set out, like they have a gap between them. Maybe im just used to phpbb and the old forum

Zygar

It's nice, but I'm used to this sort of layout. (http://zygar.co.nz/images/misc/imusedtothis.png)

's good though.

I also prefer the layout as suggested by Zygar, Do we have the option of selecting different style sets/schemes?

That aside, A big thumbs up all around,a huge step in a great direction and obviously something that took some hard work.

So...uh.....thanks :D

But just 11 emoticons!!!!!111111

That's just not enough!!!

16-12-2004, 12:43 PM
Indeed... a bit short on the 'Smilies'

Should get used to it pretty fast. I also perfer if we can have more threads per page, e.g. 100 as opposed to what we now have at maximum of 40 per page

Very grateful for what we have now though -already survived yesterday without PF1

Seems rather good, sure uses up a lot of screen for the amount of info. I like it though. So now the admins can rest a bit ? And re-grow the fingernails? Thanks to you all.

Yea, seems like a rather big amount of space being taken up. Good exercise for fingers scrolling the mouse though :p The banner is humungous

I'd say it's got a whole lot going for it, and not just aesthetically - the interface and stuff-behind-the-scenes seem to be a real step forward. Like the colour scheme, but yes, the vertical spacing does seem a little excessive.

Pretty sure you can change all that under your CP.

Please let us know what you think!

Nice enough, but a bit "fussy" looking, ie I miss the simplicity of the previous forums, and since they started working faster a little while back, I can't see the justification for the new ones.

But very well done on getting all the old threads and posts over to here.

I hope image avatars and signatures don't get introduced.

I could change the text size in the old F1 with View/Text Size. I can't now. This might be a problem for some people with poor sight.

I'm myopic, ( :) don't say it ) but I can read this.

I like it, im most impressed with the page load speeds, really excellent! - i am rural dialup here, heaps better than the old F1 loading times ;).
One thing i can't really settle on (or have to work out) is the "display modes", if i choose the view i want, i.e i can miss certain posts as they don't appear (they are in the top threaded part, but U have to click the/or are under the {more replies below current depth}.
Using the threaded mode you can filick through them with the "prev & next" though - will just take a bit of getting used to i guess. I just wish you could have them all viewed by default in the threded box and bottom, without using the {more replies below current depth} - only other way is without the top thread, which i like, but then you can see the whole lot of thread by default in - "Linear Mode". Pity there wasn't a combo of "hybrid" and "Linear mode".
:D Hope that makes sense, lol.

But yes - well done - most impressive in my opinion ;) :).

Top points for the page load speeds though!!!:cool::cool:

I find the navigation a bit awkward with going back to the forum. Clicking on the "pressf1" box takes me to a page with a choice of forum or chat where the old forum had i think it was the "home" button.

Well you cant please everyone :)

The forum is fully fluid, so should stretch right across your browser, except of course for the column ad being on the right hand side.
If your blocking the ad and there's a blank space, then that's something you'll unfortunately just have to live with.

i think its cool.... just like linuxquestions and webdevelopers and stuff.... only easier.... less clutered than them.

One thing tho...make the band at the top like it used to be... put that ad in the white and the pressf1 and pcworld logos in the red and make them slightly bigger... or keep them the same size....

Yeah... that'd pretty much make it perfect...:D:D:D:D

I agree - I prefer the layout suggested by Zygar, with the poster info at the left of each post. It makes it a lot easier to follow what's being said I feel.

I'v turned them off, as I think they were just distracting, found myself reading the same ones over and over again.

They may be usefull to keep your system specs in, so anyone asking for help dosent have to be asked 20 questions just to find out what they have.

The jury is still out but I have to admit that the old forum was quicker to read due to its simplicity and less clutter. It's going to take a few days to get the hang of this one, particularly in sorting out which threads/posts I have read. I agree about the need to increase number of posts per page as I haven't yet figured out how to go straight to the first unread post in a thread several pages long.

Alpha
17-12-2004, 09:20 AM
I like the design and there are lots of new cool features (I'm still exploring all the new features). I really like the message summaries that appear when you hold the mouse over the thread and the ability to see who's online at the moment.

It was a bit slow on the first visit but now I'm not noticing any slow down. Had a few teething problems getting my account activated but once I changed my email address I got activated straight away.

The threads with new posts since your last visit are displayed in bold.

Personallly I'm liking the new gear more and more, oodles of bells and whistles and nice touches.

And the layout looks much better when i have images enabled, sadly not something i can enjoy at work.

I think the new look is great - except for the little niggles that have already been raised - posts per page, vertical spacing, user details not off to the side - but those are all survivable. On the whole - much more pleasant to look at - the old layout could be a little harsh.

george12
17-12-2004, 12:58 PM
OMG OMG OMG

You guys made it with the stuff to the side :D

Looking great now. But how do you change the threads per page? I only see the option to change posts per thread shown :(.

And trying to post this, I got:

You have included too many images in your signature or in your previous post. Please go back and correct the problem and then continue again.

Images include use of smilies, the vB code [img] tag and HTML <img> tags. The use of these is all subject to them being enabled by the administrator.

Cheers George

TOO too SLOW. Going from page to page gives me time for TWO cigarettes
Getting from one thread to the next is a major exercise. :groan: :groan: :groan:
Emoticons don't work. Oh I've already said that.
What's happened to e-mail notifications about new posts?
I think too much effort has been put into the peripherals and not enough into the purpose of what it's supposed to do. :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: and Emoticons still don't work.

And when I tried to post this I was barred because I had too many emoticons

To increase the font size hold down the ctrl key and rotate the wheel on your mouse,or alternativly go into your browser settings and configure a minimum font size.

To speed up loading times, Relocate from current backwater...

Email notification is an option you can enable in your CP,and you can subscibe to threads and whatnot.

Smilies work for everyone else, It must be your motherboard, Suggest you purchase new computer.
