Hi all,

I am purchasing a Dual Layer DVD writer, For the price these two drives the LG 4160 or the LiteOn 1633 look great, only $174 at Ascent. Anyone used either of these or can recommend the brand.

Thanks for your help

I would see what software they come with,I personally would take the Lite-on over the LG (to be honest i wouldn't buy any LG...) but was disapointed when mine was supplied without nero, and the oem version of Nero that came with my CD writer would not work with the DVD writer......

I just bought the LG after advice from recent posts here & I can't fault it.
Written 32 DVD's & 22 CD's so far without a hitch
It also got the best reviews from roundups on quite a few sites

Well.. it's quite clear that LiteOn has being the perferred brand so far. But I just want to remind -with every and any brand, you will have a good batch and a bad batch. The bad batch of a good brand will be no better than the bad brand with a good batch. Brands don't necessarily say much -it is a generalised opinion.

Normally I'd be Lite-On all the way. Luckily, I read your question and the LG has been reviewed as one of the top DVD writers out there.

Therefore, I'll have to say LG.

Lo.

And the NEC ND 3500 is better for another $4, according to authorative sources who have done hours and hours of research, tossed a coin, didn't like the answer so asked users of this forum which one to buy ;)

Hi all,

Thanks for all your comments, I have gone with the LG, if you don't hear from me regarding the drive, its been a success. If you do hear from me you can all say I told you so and that I should have gone with LiteOn.

I think he'll be getting a 'bad' brand with a 'good' batch like the ones they give away to reviewers. :p

I had the same question about 3 weeks ago, and was alerted to a review here:
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=11079&PageId=22

After which I purchased the LG, and have been extremely happy with it. Does DVD-RAM as well.
BE interested to hear if you have any problems with your LG writer.

LG without question. 2 year warranty and they rarely fail. I have been selling LG drives for a couple of years (CDROM, CDRW DVDR) with very low percentage of failures. I was a fan of of Aopen but the failure rate was absoutely appalling.

Must be the first Aopen fan ever!!!1111

Some LG's is the past have had great difficulty reading CD's with various versions of safedisc and other such copy protection ,and i am always weary of the fact that its normally the LG drivers on clearance.

Thats not to say the drive in question isn't a great drive, Just a couple observations....
