View Full Version : How do I remove uninvited programs?
31-07-2004, 11:20 AM
Somehow there are two programs called “My Web Search” and “MSN Gaming Zone” have found their way into my program files. One keeps making my home page default www.msn.com no matter how many times set it to blank. They do not show up in the remove program file of the control panel. Have tried to remove them via Windows Explorer but will not allow me to. Have installed Startup Organizer and see no sign of them in there. Also a program called P2P Network keeps starting. Any suggestions as to how remove these pesks! XP Pro.

This is i believe loaded on with Kazzaa,Your going to have to hit your machine hard with Spybot and adawere,we have a faq on it somewhere....
The MSN gaming zone folder is part of WINXP and being a system protected file cannot be removed, its there so the games installed with xp will run(internet chess and whatnot)

Run updated versions of both Spybot S&E (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html) and Adaware Free (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) (if you don't have then download, install then update them online).
For My Websearch you will need HijackThis (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?act=Resources&CODE=03&lid=156) , before using it read this (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=42), HijackThis is not a point and click programme and you can do damage to your setup if not done properly. You may also need CWShedder from the same people as HijackThis (unfortunately developement of these two programmes is ceasing).
If your at all unsure post back.
