What potential risks am I creating by having my computer scanned at the airport during security checks?

Whoa, 98? Doesn't even say who it's by!

But for anyone interested, they make you take it out the bag and it goes through, so obviously no damage.

Well it may be an old post, but I want to take a laptop via airplane next weekend, and was wondering about exactly that. LOL

Some one new - Have noticed several old posts dragged back up - nothing offensive been written so far.

Mind you that question is one that gets asked a lot.

There isn't going to be any damage at all. Lol otherwise I think we'd hear about it loud and clear first of all from business people who travel a LOT everyday and then by the rest of us.

The Airport Security people are silly, not stupid (some might beg to differ)

How do you even find posts that old without going back several dozen pages?

Just click on "Last >>>"

The oldest here are 98.

If an x-ray is good enough for me it's good enough for the PC

You will receive as much cosmic radiation (in the X-ray, gamma ray range) in one about 1 - 2 hours flying above 35000 feet as you would if you went through one of the passenger baggage inspection X-ray machines (which of course you aren't allowed to). The atmosphere attenuates significant amounts of this radiation, hence the increase at higher altitudes. Essentially, the strength of the X-rays will have no adverse effect on electronics.
