I have a column in Excel which is text but has only lower case words in it, how do I alter the first letter of each word, in that column, in existing documents, to uppercase without changing other columns in the spreadsheet.

Select all the cells you like to change, cut, paste into a word doc, then format, change case, sentence case. Select and paste back into excel.

use the =PROPER function included with Excel. For example, =proper(A1) converts the contents of cell A1 to display with a Capital first letter and all other letters in lower case.
